STABILA, one of the world's top measuring tool manufacturers, celebrated its 135-year anniversary by opening a new, state-of-the-art logistics facility at the company’s new, second German site in the new joint industrial park of Wilgartswiesen-Hauenstein. The celebration at the end of June welcomed employees, shareholders, advisory board members, friends of the company and representatives of the district and local communities.
The event gave guests the chance to view the logistics facility, which covers around 8,000 m², situated approximately 12 kilometres from the company headquarters in Annweiler, in the Palatinate region. Guided tours provided a comprehensive look at the company’s modern warehousing and logistics processes. In his speech, CEO Ulrich Dähne outlined the company’s 135-year history and noted: “The launch of the new logistics facility is an important milestone for STABILA and underscores the company’s commitment to Southwest Palatinate as a business hub.” By opening the new site, with an investment of around €15 million, the company is looking optimistically towards the future and continuing its trajectory of growth, he added.

STABILA’s new logistics facility was opened at a big ceremony, which was attended by employees, shareholders, advisory board members, friends of the company and representatives of the district and local communities.
Double the revenue in the same space
The company’s strong growth figures were a crucial factor in deciding to build a new logistics facility. The company’s revenue has more than doubled over the past ten years, but the space available for logistics remained the same. This caused daily problems and the added complexity of using external warehousing areas. To enable further growth, the logistics space had to be significantly enlarged. Annweiler did not offer suitable, accessible space, so the company decided to construct the building in the Wilgartswiesen-Hauenstein industrial park, supported by the district of Southwest Palatinate and both communities. The initial groundbreaking ceremony took place on 28 November 2022, after the initial ideas were discussed, the project was presented to the company’s advisory board in the middle of 2019, and the plan took concrete shape from autumn 2021.
Optimised processes
The building has been constructed on a plot of almost 22,000 m² with the possibility of enlarging it in the future. The warehouse and dispatch area take up 7,350 m² and the office and social spaces comprise 250 m² each. The nine gates make it easy to accept and ship goods. The warehouse includes a supply store with 3,200 storage spaces for Euro pallets, a narrow warehouse with 500 storage spaces, a wide warehouse with 500 storage spaces for long and heavy products, and an automated small parts warehouse with 1,200 boxes. The picking and packing areas, and all work spaces, have been significantly optimised compared to the Annweiler site, processes have been designed according to state-of-the-art logistics and ergonomic standards, and a lot of elements have been automated.

Climate-neutral with space for bats
For STABILA, it was very important that the new building was sustainable and climate-neutral. The building’s energy efficiency is 55 according to the KfW standard and it is equipped with a 1,200-m² photovoltaic system with battery storage units and heat pumps. The roof and façade have green spaces and endangered species have been considered in the design, as the building includes boxes for up to 400 bats.
