Learn all about the quality and accuracy of a STABILA tape measure

Anyone who works with tape measures is sure to have tried and tested lots of products and does not want to make any compromises. In fact, when it comes to quality tape measures, numerous features determine the measurement accuracy, practicality and durability. That is why we place particular importance on robustness, reliability, ease of use and, of course, accuracy with our tape measures. All STABILA tape measures comply with the MID directive, which applies in Europe. With CE and metrology markings and EC Type Examination Certificate.

Types of tape measures

Pocket tapes

Pocket tapes

The specialists for determining short distances. Measuring blades with a curved steel blade, compact plastic housing and an integrated spring mechanism to automatically retract the blade.

Closed case and open reel tapes

Closed case and open reel tapes

The specialists for long distances. Measuring blades with a manual crank to roll up the blade, optionally equipped with plastic tape measure reinforced with fibreglass or a coated steel tape measure.

Tape properties and accuracy class

The material of the blade of STABILA tape measures differs depending on the design and model. A distinction is made between steel and fibreglass tape measures that, dependent on the area of application, offer tradespeople the perfect solution for every measuring task. STABILA measuring blades have a yellow coating ensuring they are easy to read even in sunlight.

Steel blade

Steel blade

Tape measures with steel blades provide accurate measurement results. The measuring scale is protected by paint or a coating.

With its extremely hard-wearing STABILA NYLON-WRAP blade coating that prevents the blade from corroding and the measuring scale from being rubbed off by dirt particles, the BM 300 pocket tape is particularly sturdy for everyday construction site conditions.

EC accuracy class II applies to STABILA steel measuring blades as standard.

Fibreglass tape

Fibreglass tape

The hard-wearing tape measure made of plastic reinforced with fibreglass guarantees excellent durability. Fibreglass blades are impervious to moisture and are easy to use due to their low weight. Damage caused by bending the tape is prevented by STABILA KINK PROTECTION.

EC accuracy class III applies to STABILA fibreglass tape measures as standard.

The STABILA tape measures are manufactured in accordance with the highest quality standards. The tapes comply with the MID Directive that applies to Europe and have the CE and metrology markings as well as a EC Type Examination Certificate. The measuring scale generally has large digits with red ten multiples for quick orientation and reading.

High-quality tape measures are recognised by the different markings at the start of the tape:

(1) Nominal length
(2) EC accuracy class
(3) Manufacturer's brand
(4) CE marking
(5) Metrology marking and year of manufacture
(6) Registration number and EC Type Examination Certificate

Standard hook

Standard hook

The BM 100 pocket tape is fitted with a chrome-plated and adjustable start hook for accurate internal and external measurements. The start of the tape is reinforced with a metal plate and the integrated eyelet can be used to prevent the tape measure from slipping.

STABILA SPIKES coating helps prevent slipping thus guaranteeing an exact measurement even on smooth surfaces and when measuring over larger distances. The extra-large hook of the BM 300 pocket tape with integrated eyelet makes it easy to hook in at various measuring positions and prevents the tape from slipping. The adjustable start hook ensures internal and external measurements are exact.

Universal hook with STABILA SPIKES coating

Universal hook with STABILA SPIKES coating

The universal hook on the LBM 1000 open reel tape and the LBM 2000 closed case tape offers flexible mounting options with its fold-out STABILA SPIKES hook and large shatter-proof plastic ring with nail notch providing a secure hold when pulling the tape measure. The eyelet integrated in the SPIKES hook means the fixing can be released quickly.

Start of measurement

Start of measurement

The zero point on STABILA tape measures is at the start of the tape clasp as standard.

On tape measures with a plastic ring, it is easy to add to the measured lengths: 2 cm between zero point and nail notch, 5 cm between zero point and start of the ring.

Housing and material types

STABILA tape measures have a shatter-proof housing made of ABS or high-quality PC/ABS plastic protecting the tape from hard impacts.

Pocket and closed case tapes from STABILA have an ergonomically shaped housing for easy use. The tape measure fits securely in the hand. Open reel tapes, on the other hand, stand out for their lightweight and shatter-proof Y-frame with ergonomically shaped handle for ease of use. This makes it easy to hold and tension the measuring blade.

Push brake: STABILA pocket tapes have a curved brake button enabling comfortable operation of the push brake to bring the blade to a controlled stop and lock it securely.

Quick-retract mechanism: A strong spring in the pocket tapes provides automatic and powerful blade retraction. The material-protecting buffer on the blade inlet protects the hook during this process to ensure a long service life.

Soft grip casing

Excellent impact resistance: The housings of the pocket and closed case tapes are protected against hard impacts and knocks by the shock-absorbent STABILA soft grip casing.

Crank

The long measuring blades of the closed case and open reel tapes can easily be retracted with the ergonomic crank handle. The fold-in crank in the park position makes it easy to measure by pulling.
