STABILA installation technology
As a result of the unique STABILA vial assembly process we are able to give you a lifetime guarantee on all our spirit levels. The distinguishing feature of our assembly system is that the vial is cast into a vial block holder (which was developed by STABILA) so that it is free from stresses but totally immoveable. The vial block holder is, in turn, inserted into the spirit level profile in a way which prevents any movement. The vial and profile are permanently aligned with each other, thus consistently guaranteeing accuracy of measurement.

The unique installation technology ensures long-term accuracy. In a special casting process, the components of the spirit level are firmly bonded forever. You can trust that your spirit level will maintain its accuracy for life. It remains accurate, just as it was on the first day. No readjustments, no doubts.
Optimum readability owing to the STABILA precision vials
The vial block is made of high-quality, shatterproof and easy-to-clean acrylic glass. The exterior surfaces must be as flat as possible to prevent light refracting when reading the vial. The interior walls of the vial are precision-ground and the corrosion-free reference rings are flush with the surface – this allows the vial bubble to move freely and unhindered, ensuring maximum measuring precision.
STABILA spirit levels are extremely temperature-resistant. The bubble size and ring spacings are designed to ensure optimum readability, even at high and low temperatures. This guarantees exact readings from -4 F to 122 F. The size of the vial bubble is always within the reference rings: from (a) at -4 F to (b) at 122 F.

The measuring positions
If the spirit level is also to be able to display with precision in the reverse position, the upper and lower wall of the vial must be mirror images of each other. This is the only way that the bubble can move without restriction in either position and so provide accurate measurements. STABILA provides this level of accuracy by the use of precision machining and multi-stage testing in the manufacturing process. The accuracy of all aluminium spirit levels is 0.5 mm/m in the normal position. Models which are suitable for reverse measurement offer an accuracy of 0.5 mm/m, 0.75 mm/m or 1.0 mm/m.
The measuring surfaces
The measuring surfaces on spirit levels can be designed in various ways. In most cases, the complete body of the spirit level, including the measuring surface, is powder-coated, painted or anodised, but on some spirit levels the measuring surface is also milled flat after the coating process. In every case, it is important that the surface be completely smooth. For this reason, not every side of a spirit level can be used as a measuring surface.
The end caps
Permanent end caps made of impact-resistant plastic are used to protect measuring surfaces reliably. The upright height of the level’s hollow profile must be appropriately dimensioned to provide good shock absorption. STABILA also provides end caps with practical additional functions.
The magnet system
STABILA incorporates ferrite and rare earth magnets. They have different adhesive forces depending on their material, shape and size. Rare earth magnets: 5 times stronger than normal ferrite magnets.
The finger-grip opening
Easy transportation is not the only advantage of spirit levels with finger-grip openings; these openings also make it easier to align the spirit level. Some STABILA spirit levels even have finger-grip openings with a profiled two-component lining for a particularly firm and secure grip.
